I will be adding new prompts each day to this thread for about one week!
What are prompts? Basically just questions to get you thinking about the topic! In this case, I will be providing questions and thought starters to getting you thinking about who you are as a person!
This is my first online class SO you get to help me figure out how to best do this :D My idea is that as I add prompts, everyone shares the ideas they come up with for their books! I will always share mine to help give you some ideas.
Make a post for yourself here (like we do with the FF challenges), and as I add the prompts you can edit your post to add in your thought & ideas. Don't edit yourself too much! You can choose which ones to include in your book later.
**If you prefer, you don't have to share your ideas here. This is just an idea to make the class more interactive**
************************************************** ***********
Day 1: Strengths
What classes were you good at as a child? How does this compare to your strengths today?
If you work outside of the home, what skills do you rely on at work? Think about how you developed these skills over the years?
Did you inherit any particular strengths from a family member?
Are there any quirky things you excel at? Or are there any strange "tricks" you have always been able to do? How have these served you over time?
Day 2: Friends & Family
* What were your friendships like as a child? How is this similar to your friendships now?
* Have you always had a large group of friends or just a few close friends?
* Has making friends always been easy (or difficult) for you?
* What do you friends depend on you for?
* How do your closest friends describe you (ask them!)
* Reflect on the constants of your family relationships.
* Have you always played a certain role in your family? The responsible one? The "baby"? The "black sheep"?
* Are the family social director, artist, or maybe peace maker?
* What are the constants of your relationship with your parents? Your siblings?
Day 3: FREETIME

Random thoughts:
* I get bored easily and prefer to multi-task
Day 1:
* I was always good at math as a child & I still enjoy analytical tasks
* I always liked to explain things to people (and considered teaching)
* I inherited my love of creating from my mom's side of the family
* I can flare my nostrils, do the elvis lip thing, and raise one eyebrow lol
Day 2:
* I am the talkative one - ALWAYS
* I have always befriended new people
* I am the person my friends go to to complain or vent
* I have always been the "good girl" in my family - never getting into trouble
Day 3:
* I have always done everything with the TV on
* My mom and I have always loved to watch a good movie with the lights off
* I love to create with my hands. This is something much of my mom's family does.
* I like to cook for people. Not boring everyday cooking. But social, lets all get together and enjoy a meal on a weekend cooking. I think I get this from my mom who is a great non-gourmet cook.
* I have always spent most of my alone time hiding in my bedroom!
* I have always LOVED to sing along to music LOUD. Esp. in the car. This is something else I got from my mom who is the same way.
Day 4:
* My mom taught me much of my values. She instilled in me the idea that you help others around you when you can, that taking action is important (not just talking), and that all people are equal. The first two she taught more by example. The last, she really felt was very important. She came from a town that was still racially divided when she was a child and escaped that as a teen. I feel her views and outlook taught me to try not to judge others.
Don't get me wrong, I have had moments when I learned something new about a friend that took me by surprise... but after an adjustment period, I am usually quite excepting. As long as people don't hurt others or themselves, who am I to judge.
I try to see things from others perspectives - something my mom noted about me. And I think this lead to my job. I am paid to find out how people feel about things. I love that about my job!
I believe in DOING something when I see something happening. This has applied a lot at work. I notice that everyone complains about the same things but no one DOES anything. I am proud of myself for the times I took action and made a positive change in someone's life or improved how things were done for my company. I think this is a value my mom instilled in me!
I value family. I don't make an effort to see them enough though, so I realize that this is something I need to improve on.
I also value loyalty.
My husband and I share most of these values, which is why I think our relationship has continued to work even after almost 20 years! We started dating when we were in high school.
Day 5:
* I have always HATED doing housework. I am still awful about doing it.
* I don't like detail work. I don't enjoy the follow-thru. I like the idea. (but I have learned, as all adults do, to make myself do the detail work when required - I even wrote computer programs for 2 years!)
* I hate too much alone time. I like company, friends, family and pets around me. I thrive around supportive people.
* I am not good at NOT sharing. I tend to overshare... sometimes a real issue. But I have been working on NOT sharing others info - particularly for those friends that are more private.
* I am loud and talk too fast
* I suck at conforming - particularly in situations where I should be quiet, reserved.
* I have always been impatient - opening gifts early
* I have always been undisciplined! Terrible study habits, work habits, etc.
* I procrastinate very well!
Day 6:
* I have always been passionate. My passion is something I get good feedback on at work.
* I am talkative, outgoing, emotional, smart, opinionated, unorganized, and unique.
* I think of myself as both left brained and right brained - a thing that makes me unique and better suited for my job
Day 7:
* I have always had a weakness for a cute stuffed animal. As a child, if I picked one up at a store I felt like that was the one I had to buy or I would hurt its feelings. Today I still have a handful of stuffed animals including a bear DH got me when we first started dating. He must be about 18 years old!
* I have always liked cute stuff. As child it was Barbie. As an adult Hello Kitty.
* I collected stickers as child and now I love scrappy supplies! I have always loved art stuff!
* Sugar! Oh yeah! Coke, candy, all of it!

Day 1: Strengths
- Math was always my favorite class, and I won an award in 3rd grade for being the best 3rd grade girl in math. there was one girl and one boy who won each award, and I thought it was dumb :giggle: i wanted to be the BEST, not just the best girl! lol Now I am a math professor :) My dad was a math major in college, I think I got it from him (since my mom failed calculus :giggle: )
- I think making friends is one of my strengths, we moved a lot as a kid and I got used to uprooting and meeting new people and having to make friends quickly.
- attention to detail. i think you all know that by now ;) I've always been kind of "nitpicky" and literal with instructions and rules and things. It's usually a strength, but not always!
- I have always loved crafts, I got that from my mom who got it from her mom. My grandmother does all kinds of needlepoint, cross stitch, knitting, crochet, you name it. She used to be the manager of a needlepoint store. My mom also does needlepoint and all kinds of crafts for around the home.
Day 2: Friends and Family
- I have always had more than one best friend. I don't know why, but I could never seem to choose just one lol Then a circle of reasonably close friends, then a lot of acquaintances. It's been hard being in NYC and losing my big circle from college, I have very few friends here.
- I have always been the "good girl", both in my circle of friends and in my family. Always home on time, always follow the rules, etc. That's started to change recently :giggle: but I think it's one of the reasons the recent changes have been *so* hard for my family to deal with.
- I have always been a peacemaker. I really dislike conflict, and seeing people upset. I am a "fixer". Friends come to me for advice and to vent, and I have had to learn how to just listen sometimes and not always try and fix.
Day 3: Free Time
- I have ALWAYS loved to read. I learned how to read when I was about 3 years old, and haven't stopped since. Everyone in my family loves to read but I think I got it especially from my dad, who devours books faster than anyone I know.
- I have always enjoyed crafty hobbies. For the past 10 years that has been scrapbooking & cardmaking. Before that it was painting & drawing - I took art classes in school & on weekends. Plus mom would always have little craft projects for us to work on.
- I am always singing. if there is music in the background, no matter what kind it is, whether I've heard it before or not, I will be singing alone. I don't even realize I'm doing it most of the time. As I type this, I'm sitting here belting out some Martina McBride :giggle:
- I have always loved to play games. Card games, board games, computer games - you name it. I got the love of card games from my Dad, he taught me everything I know :) We weren't allowed to have any video game systems growing up so I am not as much into those, enjoy board games & cards more. One thing I miss from Olin is having enough people around all the time to get a game going pretty much whenever we wanted.
Day 4: Values
- I have always valued school, learning, and intelligence. My parents instilled this in my by always putting school first and making sure that we had the ability to devote our full attention & energy to school (we weren't allowed to work while in high school, for example). My love of learning has translated into my academic & career choices - as a professor, I will be "in school" for the rest of my life! And a corresponding value is that I value intelligence & the ability to carry on an intelligent conversation in others and especially in a partner.
- I was raised Catholic but no longer go to church or really identify as Catholic anymore. My family is still very very very Catholic and my choice of a different path has definitely caused some tension.
- I value honesty & integrity, patience & understanding, respect for others and for the dignity of all human life, compassion, openness, and freedom.
Day 5: The Negative
- I have always been afraid of the dark. I used to sleep with a light on, from elementary school until college. It was only when I finally got help for my anxiety that I was able to turn off the lights at night. And I'm still uncomfortable being outside late at night.
- I have always struggled with my weight. Ever since 3rd grade I have been overweight. I have done more diets and food plans - and would always lose 20 lbs over the summer and then gain it right back when I went back to school. I think this is one of the negative side effects of the "value school above all else" mentality - I didn't play sports, and later in life I would give up on watching my weight any time schoolwork got stressful, because after all, doing well in school was the most important thing, right? :sigh:
- I have always been insecure. This goes along with the previous one, and with my anxiety issues. I've always had low self-esteem and been really insecure, especially in social situations. The only times I was confident were related to academics. I have made huge improvements in this area though, especially since I started dating adam. He has really helped bring me out of my shell and learn to be more confident and assertive. I luff him :loveshower:
Day 6: Personality Traits
- I have always been shy & introverted.
- I have always been friendly & caring.
- I have always been smart & a little OCD :giggle:
- I have always been creative.
Day 7: Favorites
- my favorite food is baked brie and has been ever since I was a kid. that's the meal I would always ask for on my birthday
- my favorite book for a long time was Matilda by Roald Dahl
- my favorite genres have always been mystery & fantasy. From Nancy Drew & Madeline L'Engle to Sneaky Pie Brown & Mercedes Lackey and even in TV shows - all the Law & Order shows, and SciFi ones too. I never realized before that my TV tastes & reading tastes are really similar! how cool!
and i love the idea of sharing responses if people are willing to, I get so many good ideas from other people!

Day 1: Strengths
What classes were you good at as a child? math when I was younger, once I got into middle/high school I wasnt good at any of them How does this compare to your strengths today? It compares in the fact that I make Trent do all the homework helping lol
If you work outside of the home, what skills do you rely on at work? Think about how you developed these skills over the years?
Did you inherit any particular strengths from a family member? i inherited the gift of laying a good guilt trip from my Mom (not sure if that is a gift or not :o)
both my parents owned flower shops so I am guessing I got my creativity from both of them
Are there any quirky things you excel at? Or are there any strange "tricks" you have always been able to do? How have these served you over time?
I am extremely sarcastic, a huge smart ass
have always been a joker even when I was a child
I have always handled awkward/uncomfortable situations w/ humor
Day 2: Friends & Family
* What were your friendships like as a child? How is this similar to your friendships now?
I was popular when I was youg, like in elementary school, when I was in a very small private school my brother & I knew everyone, got along w/ everyone was very comfortable. when I was dropped into public school in 5th grade I still made friends pretty easily & got along w/ most everyone. once I was in highschool I had more guy friends than girls, I couldnt deal w/ the back-stabbing & gossiping that girls that age do, drove me nutso! I had a few close girlfriends but mostly guys. I was always extremely loyal!! very much so. & still am to this day. I would do just about anything for my good friends & they all know they can count on me
* Have you always had a large group of friends or just a few close friends? hmmmm think I covered that one already :D
* Has making friends always been easy (or difficult) for you? & that one
* What do you friends depend on you for? I am a good listener, got that from my Mom (need to add that in Day 1)
* How do your closest friends describe you (ask them!)
* Reflect on the constants of your family relationships. hmmmm really not wanting to think about the family crap right now :o maybe later
* Have you always played a certain role in your family? The responsible one? The "baby"? The "black sheep"?
* Are the family social director, artist, or maybe peace maker?
* What are the constants of your relationship with your parents? Your siblings?
Day 3: FREETIME
* Think about how you liked to spend your free-time as a child. What games and activities did you enjoy? I was extemely active in gymnastics until I was 10, when we moved :(
I was so proud of the fact that my gymnastics coach was the asst. coach to Bella Carolie (sp??) when he was coaching Nadia  that was super exciting to me!! My Gpa built me a balance beam so I could practice at home -- I was pretty darn good  I could do 6 back handsprings in a row :D those were awesome times for me
My bro & I spent a lot of time outside, riding bikes & whatnot. I was def my brothers tagalong sister, I always wanted to be where he was, doing whatever he did. Even once we were teenagers we had the same friends, went to the same parties..... which was great til he wanted to stay friends w/ one of my ex's or something lol
I was always a huge reader & still am. I LOVE books & always have. I always read way above my grade level. & taught myself to read very early, cuz my bro knew how to read so I wanted to also
*How are these similar to your hobbies today? other than still loving to read (& never having time) I really dont do alot of the same things as I did
I was very active as a child and now I am so not :o
altho I LOVED taking pictures always!! from a very young age, I was the kid at the partied & school & whatever taking all the pics. I have tons of photos, literally boxes of them from when I was young, pictures of total nonsense lol
* Areas to think about - arts & crafts, reading, movies/TV, sports, outdoor activities, camping, etc.
* Did you "inherit" any passions from your parents or other family members
* Think about patterns in how you spend your free-time or similarities in the various hobbies you have had
Day 4: VALUES
* What values did your parents instill in you? honesty was always a huge thing to my Mom. She also had me in private school thru 5th grade, & church every Sunday
*How does this impact who you are today? i think the reason why it is so important to me that my kids go to private school is because I went & loved it! & being dropped into public after being in private for so long was a really bad culture shock! one that I would so not want to put my kids thru, so they are going all the way thru in private school :)
I also tell James regularly how important honesty is to me (he is at an age that he couldnt care less lol but I tell him anyway :D)
* What values have you passed on to your children? How does this define you as a person.
I tell james (& will tell the others when they are old enough to know what I am saying lol) how important honesty is to me, I try to be very open w/ my kids which is something i did NOT get at home. My 12 year is an incredible smart ass :giggle: He totally got his sarcastic nature from me :D
* Did religion play a big part of your childhood? If so, how did that shape your values as an adult? think I already covered this one :D
Day 5: THE NEGATIVE
* What things have always been a challenge for you?
I have always been overly emotional -- dont know if you would call that a "challenge" but I do because it is very frustrating to be such a crybaby lol
Trust is really really hard for me. I am extremely bitter & jaded because of what I experienced as a kid and I dont trust easily. I also dont love easliy, as Trent can atest to I can make it really really hard for anyone to stick around and love me thru the bad times :o I think its how I test people to see how serious they are about staying around
* Are there things you have disliked every since childhood? Do you know when it first began?
* What things did you hate as child? Which classes, foods, chores, etc. Do you still hate these as an adult? I hated history! hated it!! :grrr: I always wished I could draw, I always wanted to be an artist :sigh: I hated onions when I was younger, I only like them cooked now :D
* What irks you in other people? Has this always been true? dishonesty & back stabbers! always hated it & still do, if you have something bad to say about somebody you should be able to say it to their face, if you are saying it behing their back
* Any phobias or fears? Can you remember when they started? when I was little I had a horrible fear that something would happen to my Mom & I would have no where to go. I had recurring dreams about it. THey were terrible, very scarey. I think this is when my anxiety/panic attacks started
Day 6: PERSONALITY TRAITS
* How do other describe you? What traits did you parents, teachers and friends use to describe you as a child?
At EVERY parent/teacher conference my teachers told my Mom that I talk to much :o & that I would always finish my work & get up out of my seat & try to helps the other students w/ their work too.
My Mom always called her 'very black & white child' in other words it was right or wrong, there was NO in between, no "gray areas"
I was also very bossy :o very!! when I was young, not so much after 12 or so but, when I was younger I was the leader of the group & I totally thought I knew best & the most :D
Day 7: FAVORITES
* What are the things that you love today? Which ones started in early childhood?
Dr Pepper, that obsession started in high school
* Consider foods, places, animals, drinks, clothing, style, and objects
* Any favorite toys or items you still use today?
* Do you have "signature" style or item that has always been "you"? Girly, tomboy, pink, flowers, black, vintage, unique, casual, etc. You get the idea! I hated pink when I was little, but LOVE It now (not really what you asked but wanted to get it on here somewhere lol) my long hair is def my 'signature' My Mom forced me to have short 'bowl-cut' like hair for several years when I was little & I absolutely hated it!!! I think that is why I have always had long hair ever since & just cant bring myself to cut it short :o

Day 1: Strengths
What classes were you good at as a child? How does this compare to your strengths today? Always good at math. I wanted to be a math tacher, but then decided teaching wasn't for me. I should have stuck it out in math at college but I was too big of a slacker in college. Always an outstanding student before college but once I had fredom it was all down hill
If you work outside of the home, what skills do you rely on at work? Think about how you developed these skills over the years?I guess i used math and numbers at work reading P & L and reports and payroll. Mostly people pleasing skills (for customers) and leadership skills (for employees.) I catch on to new things extremelly easy, which is good for retail since everything is constantly changing to make numbers.
Did you inherit any particular strengths from a family member? I guess now retail from my mom--maybe. She started working in retail just after me and we both have management positions--at one point at the same company before i left.
Are there any quirky things you excel at? Or are there any strange "tricks" you have always been able to do? How have these served you over time? I am extremelly inquizative and need to know how to do everything. I can't spell.

* Has making friends always been easy (or difficult) for you?I guess not that easy since I come of as not too friendly. I am shy and not too talkative.
* What do you friends depend on you for?Answers, honesty
* How do your closest friends describe you (ask them!)
* Reflect on the constants of your family relationships. I am not a family person. I mean I love my paretns and grandparetns. But I am not close with my cousins or my aunt and uncles.
* Have you always played a certain role in your family? The responsible one? The "baby"? The "black sheep"? I am the princess. They joke about how my grandfather has me on a pedestal.
* Are the family social director, artist, or maybe peace maker?
* What are the constants of your relationship with your parents? Your siblings?I am the only child. They expect a lot from me--good grades, be there when they need it, do what they want. If my mom wanted to see Sage, I would have to bring her to her house, she would not come to my house. If I wanted her to babysit, she would have to go to her house.
Day 3: FREETIME
* Think about how you liked to spend your free-time as a child. What games and activities did you enjoy? How are these similar to your hobbies today? Reading, listening to music, playing with barbies, playing games,
* Areas to think about - arts & crafts, reading, movies/TV, sports, outdoor activities, camping, etc.HATE camping!
* Did you "inherit" any passions from your parents or other family members
* Think about patterns in how you spend your free-time or similarities in the various hobbies you have hadI think being an only child has allowed me to be able to do thing on my own and not have a problem with it.
Day 4: VALUES
* What values did your parents instill in you? How does this impact who you are today?
* What values have you passed on to your children? How does this define you as a person.

* Any phobias or fears? Can you remember when they started?Oh my. I have so many. I am scared of dark places-like parking lots at night or dark rooms without the lights in unfamiliar places. I am scared of ice fishing. I know there is more but just cant think right now.
Day 6: PERSONALITY TRAITS
* How do other describe you? What traits did you parents, teachers and friends use to describe you as a child?
Quiet, shy. Never liked being the center of attention. "Liz is a pleasure to have in class."
*When all else fails, try choosing from this list:
⁃ quiet, introverted, friendly, reserved, passionate, easygoing
⁃ optimistic, skeptical, critical, nervous, open-minded, curious, dependable, loyal

Love this idea Bree!
Day 1: Strengths
What classes were you good at as a child? How does this compare to your strengths today? I wasn't really the greatest student. I would spend a lot of time trying to figure out exactly what I needed to make on a test just to pass the class. If I needed a 65 to pass, I only studied 65% worth of stuff. I never truly applied myself...which, of course, is coming back to haunt me because Abigail is JUST like that. And to some degree I'm probably still a lot like that in only putting forth the effort in things that interest me.
If you work outside of the home, what skills do you rely on at work? Think about how you developed these skills over the years? Organization, team work, leadership, initiative, ownership...all things that I use at work daily. I take great pride in the job that I do...whether my full time job or with the freak. Growing up with a single mom taught me to be very independent and responsible. Not sure where the organization comes from...definitely not my mother. Or maybe because she wasn't made me have to be!
Did you inherit any particular strengths from a family member? Independence, responsibility, ownership...those all came from my mom. My mom was always involved in some type of craft and my grandmother is an artist and pianist so I get my artistic abilities from them. I don't know my father so I have no idea what traits came from him...probably all the bad ones. lol
Are there any quirky things you excel at? Or are there any strange "tricks" you have always been able to do? How have these served you over time? I can twist my feet backwards...or at least I could when I was younger and not carrying as much weight. And I smack in my sleep. Not sure that's been very beneficial over the years. lol
Day 2: Friends & Family
What were your friendships like as a child? How is this similar to your friendships now? Have you always had a large group of friends or just a few close friends? * Has making friends always been easy (or difficult) for you? I've always just had one really close friend and then a lot of other friends that were more acquaintances. I'm very guarded and not terribly trusting so I'm kind of reserved when it comes to friendships. I can make friends easily but I don't do well with high-maintance or drama so most of my friendships aren't instant. I hate to say it but people kind of have to prove themselves to me before I'm that accepting of their friendship. I kind of use the same process a mentioned earlier to determine if it's even worth it.
What do your friends depend on you for? I think that really depends on the friend. I think a place to vent and discuss things...share a love for similar things...have fun. I'm a pretty laid back friend. I don't typically befriend people that need lots of direction or advice because I'm not the most sympathetic person in the world. I'm very much a get over it type personality. If you want advice, you might not want to hear what I have to say. lol You get honesty from me that's for sure.
How do your closest friends describe you (ask them!) will ask...kind of scared at getting that response!
Reflect on the constants of your family relationships. That's mostly my mother who has always been there for me. And my grandmother. We have a very small family...no siblings, not close to aunts/uncles/cousins.
Have you always played a certain role in your family The responsible one? The "baby"? The "black sheep"? How about the only one? lol It's really easy to fill all those roles when you're an only child. I always wished I had horrible siblings so my mother would see that I really was a good kid after all.
Are the family social director, artist, or maybe peace maker? Definitely not the peace maker. With a small family those roles are played out easily among all of us. The fewer people you have the easier it is to get things accomplished.
Day 3: FREETIME
Think about how you liked to spend your free-time as a child. What games and activities did you enjoy? How are these similar to your hobbies today? I loved playing office, library or school. Anything with paper that caused me to organize something. I liked art, drawing, cross-stitch, painting...all things that have led to my scrapbooking hobby. I was never one to be outside playing as much...it was just hot and not worth the effort...very much how I am today. :)
Example: When I was in drill team in high school, we had to try out every week in order to perform at the game. Well, first I was in drill team because I could do that and not have to take p.e. So every week when I tried out, I would purposely mess up so they wouldn't let me perform. I still got an A because it was a participation sport but didn't have to actually do the work.Just not worth the effort if you don't have to do it. lol
Areas to think about - arts & crafts, reading, movies/TV, sports, outdoor activities, camping, etc. Did you "inherit" any passions from your parents or other family members?
Think about patterns in how you spend your free-time or similarities in the various hobbies you have had. My mom and I always watched TV and movies...two things I still love today. I enjoy reading to but it takes me awhile to get through a book...too many other things to distract me from reading.

I. Strengths
What classes were you good at as a child? How does this compare to your strengths today? As a smaller child I was always pretty good at whatever I put my mind to. More than anything else I was an excellent reader. I could read by the age of 2 and a half; and read upside down before the age of three. This translated into an incredible love of books that still holds true today. If you didn't know this about me, you easily could have guessed based on how I am as an adult. There are tons and tons of books in my apartment, most of which have been read multiple times. Both of my majors, Political Science and Womens and Gender Studies, are very heavy on the amount of required reading, and my love of reading and books has been the one thing that has always helped me to get through the hard times.
I have this deep need to understand things. I am not fine with just "knowing" that something is true. This has gotten me into a lot of trouble over the years. Thankfully my parents were never the type to just say something like "well its true because I said so" or "I'm the parent, whatever I say goes". This turns into quite a big problem for me when I'm arguing with someone, especially my mom or CD. I tend to get really really really angry when I'm arguing with someone and they can't explain what it is that's going on. Both CD and my mom freeze up and shut down whenever there is an argument, and I'm the complete opposite. I need to talk everything out until I understand every thing that was said from the beginning to the end.
Did you inherit any particular strengths from a family member? I've inherited a lot from family members; I'm definitely my parents children. I get my kindness and willing to help others from my mom, as well as my creativity. From my father I get my logic, my sass; my competitiveness; and from both my parents I get my passion, which more than anything makes me who I am.
Are there any quirky things you excel at? Or are there any strange "tricks" you have always been able to do? How have these served you over time? I read extremely quickly; it ticks people off when we're watching jeopardy, and Alex hasn't finished reading the clue before I answer. I also don't know my right from my left, and I really understand why its such a big deal. I'm also excellent at directions. If we're driving in the car, I know which way is north; and which way we want to go to get to where we want to be; I get this from my dad, when I was younger, we'd go on driving expeditions, and he'd always make me play navigator. I also have a knack for just remembering stupid things; it comes in handy when playing trivia games!
II: Friends & Family
* What were your friendships like as a child? How is this similar to your friendships now? I've always had one or two close girl friends, and usually got a long much much better with guys. That's exactly how I am today. My best friend Samantha as well as my younger sister Lauren, are my only close girl friends. I have lots and lots of guy friends, many of whom I'm very close with. I don't do well with "girl drama," which is seemingly why I'm more attracted to guy friends over girl friends. It might be my love of sports; I've found that a love of sports can bring people closer together than a lot of things.
* Has making friends always been easy (or difficult) for you? Making friends has always been a pretty easy thing for me. I think I'm one of those love/hate people; you either love me, or you can't stand me. I get along with a lot of different people; that's actually one of the things I love most about myself. I can get along with people who are complete opposites from me. I don't let politics, opinions, or anything of the sort come in between a friend and I, or a budding friendship and I. What I won't stand for is someone making someone else feel bad about something, making them feel stupid, or for whatever reason, believing that they are better than someone else. Don't get me wrong, I do my fair share of teasing and making fun of the people I care about; but I don't do it to make myself feel better about who I am.
* What do you friends depend on you for? More than anything, a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, and two firmly planted feet that will stand behind them in whatever they feel is truly right for them.
* How do your closest friends describe you (ask them!) **Will Do**
* Reflect on the constants of your family relationships.
* Have you always played a certain role in your family? The responsible one? The "baby"? The "black sheep"?
* Are the family social director, artist, or maybe peace maker?
* What are the constants of your relationship with your parents? Your siblings?
III: FREETIME
* Think about how you liked to spend your free-time as a child. What games and activities did you enjoy? How are these similar to your hobbies today? I've always been a multi-faced person. I am very much a sports girl, I grew up playing and watching sports and they are a huge part of my life today. I've also always been very creative; and obviously that's a huge part of my life right now. Like I said earlier, I've always love love loved to read, and books are a huge part of my life. I love losing myself in a good book, especially a good series. I'm the same way with television shows, there are only a few shows that I can really get into, and I need to watch them in order that they were supposed to be seen; I love a good story, and I love shows that have great storylines and great characters. I've never been a really big movie watcher; I find most of them to be really predictable. There are a few movies that I love with all my heart and could watch over and over again; it was the same thing when I was a kid; my dad would get so annoyed when we'd come back from the video rental place with a movie that we'd rented ten times before!
As for music, I'm into a lot of different stuff. I think I put it best by saying, if I can sing it, theres a good chance that I'll enjoy it. Its one of the reasons that I love showtunes! There's something really satisfying about singing showtunes at the top of your lungs. I also love me some classic and modern rock. Sometimes I just love sitting in my car with the stereo as loud as I can turn it up without major distortion, and screaming along with the lyrics; its such an exhilarating feeling!
As I mentioned before, I'm very competitive; I LOVE playing games. I grew up playing games with my parents and my sister, and we still play today. My sister and I play some type of game every time we're together. When we were younger, we didn't have any sort of television at our summer house; so to entertain ourselves on rainy days we had to play board games or card games or another type of game we came up with. I couldn't even tell you the number of times we played monopoly, scrabble, canasta, and the tons of other games we had.
I've also always loved to cook. I think it plays off of my creativity. Which would explain why I don't really like to bake. Baking feels so restrictive; I like to be able to throw a bunch of crap into a pot and stir and create magic. I love love love making big huge dinners with appitizers, cocktails, side dishes, deserts, tablescapes, menus, and the whole nine yards. They make everything feel so special! Food is one of those things that can really really bring people together, and sitting around talking at the dinner table was always one of my favorite things to do with my family.
* Did you "inherit" any passions from your parents or other family members My passion for sports comes from my dad. He taught me how to play sports when I was a kid, he coached me throughout my youth. He helped me to become the best athlete that I could be. He taught me the semantics behind sports, one of the major reasons why I was good at sports was that I had a through understanding of how to play, and what to do to make myself better. My passion for sports goes above and beyond the love to play; when I wasn't able to play sports anymore, I turned to watching others compete. One of the reasons I find sports to be so incredibly captivating is that you can watch a seemingly normal human being do things that are so obviously above human capability. But the reason beyond all others is the passion that sports invokes just pulls at my heart strings. I don't need romance movies, sports are my tear jerkers.
IV: VALUES
* What values did your parents instill in you? How does this impact who you are today? I'm not even sure where to really start on this one. I may have to come back to this.
* Did religion play a big part of your childhood? If so, how did that shape your values as an adult? Religion did not play a part in my *very* young childhood; but from age 5 until just before high school, I was very involved in church life; going to Catholic school for several years. That period of my life, the few years before high school, shaped my values immensely; although probably not in the way that you would believe. Again, I'm gonna have to go into more detail laters; but I'm probably not going to post it here. :D If you really wanna know what it says, feel free to PM me, and I'll copy and paste it to you when I'm done.
V: THE NEGATIVE
* What things have always been a challenge for you? Relaxing; Not understanding things; Ignorant people; Letting go of things not fixating on bad things; being able to ignore people who bother me; Not being able to fix something that I think needs to be fixed; Institutions - school, religion, government--I think rules just for the sake of having rules is moronic. Not being able to see that some people really don't have ulterior motives.
* Are there things you have disliked ever since childhood? Do you know when it first began? I dislike stupid humor; like fart jokes; moronic things like that. I always hated the children's shows like that, and I still can't stand it today. I've been like that for as long as I can remember.
* What things did you hate as child? Which classes, foods, chores, etc. Do you still hate these as an adult? I don't like vegetables; I hate milk, I could give you a laundry list of food that I won't eat. Theres lots of chores that I dont like. I HATE doing the dishes by hand, it really really makes me want to throw up, in all seriousness. I dont like pulling weeds; it would annoy me to no end when my father would ask me to do that. I don't like tedious chores where I feel like I'm not doing anything.
* What irks you in other people? Has this always been true? I HATE when people ignore or interrupt other people. I dislike it when people find "thinking" to be too difficult; or that they are too lazy to think of something; really, does it take that much effort? I hate hate; I realize that may sound oxymoronic; but I think there is a difference between hating what someone does, or how a particular person might act; and hating a person themselves; especially when its for a superficial reason like race, or sexual orientation. It makes me so so sad to see people who are, for no fault of their own, treated like garbage because of assumptions. I don't like when people say that they don't like things, or think things are bad; when really, they have no clue about that thing at all (I get this a lot with both Harry Potter and political stuff). It really irks me when people try to start arguments with me about politics or womens' issues because of what I'm going to school with; but refuse to acknowledge that there is an accepted international dialog containing vocabulary in order to have a dialectic. Its like; we can't talk about how poverty hurts people around the world, if you aren't willing to accept the standard definitions of poverty. An aside; it also really bugs me when people think that they are in such dire straights; and they want people to feel sorry for them, one thing my father always said to me growing up is that there's always someone worse off than you are, and usually a hell of a lot of people are worse off than you are. Another thing that really really really really bothers me is when someone tells another person how they SHOULD FEEL, or that a way that a person is feeling is WRONG or STUPID. Its absolutely no one's business to tell someone else how they should be feeling. It also really really irks me when people are jerks because they think its "cool". Its like no thanks moron, if you want people to like you, try doing things that actually make them like you, not the opposite. If I wanted to go for a walk outside; I wouldn't go hide under my bed--not really sure what that means, but I'm on a roll, so I'm not going to stop! haha, I doubt anyone is even still reading here. It also irks me when people try to make themselves feel better by putting other people down. I think this paragraph here explains why I don't have too many friends. I just have a really hard time dealing with people who arent nice.
* Any phobias or fears? Can you remember when they started? Cars scare me; my parents have always made sure that I knew that cars were not toys, they were not to be fooled around in, I was never ever allowed to drive with friends that just got their drivers licenses. After I got into my car accident my fear got much much worse for a long time. I couldn't drive on the road I got in my accident on; and for a while, I couldn't even have someone else drive me. I'm afraid of failure; really bad.
VI: PERSONALITY TRAITS
* How do other describe you? What traits did you parents, teachers and friends use to describe you as a child? Loud, intelligent; driven; energetic. I'll add more to this one laters.
VII: FAVORITES
* What are the things that you love today? Which ones started in early childhood? My *loves* today are Family, Scrapbooking, Harry Potter, Friends, School. Probably in that order. Later I'll go back an analyze each one as they relate to early childhood.
* Consider foods, places, animals, drinks, clothing, style, and objects Here I'd like to talk about things that I really really enjoy, places I like to go, things I like to do, things that I feel comfortable doing.
* Any favorite toys or items you still use today? Lots and lots of board games, card games, lots and lots of games.
* Do you have "signature" style or item that has always been "you"? Girly, tomboy, pink, flowers, black, vintage, unique, casual, etc. Absolutely not. I've never had a style that would fit into a box, and I'm ever changing. Most people are either right-brained or left-brained, I'm neither. I don't that either think my logical side or my creative side is stronger than the other. I don't even wanna say that I'm unique or one of a kind, because honestly I feel that they're so cliche. Whenever anyone asks, I just say, I'm just me; its nothing special, I just am who I am. I don't want to be anyone else, I enjoy who I am, and I don't want to change, I dont want to fit into a category or a box or anything of the sort. I'm just me.
Hrm...you think one of these things should be that I always have to be different?

Day 1: What classes were you good at as a child? How does this compare to your strengths today? I did very well in all of my clases except gym. I'm probably the only persom who really had to try just to get C's in gym. I still love learning new things and tend to catch on quickly and, um, I'm still terribly un-athletic! lol
If you work outside of the home, what skills do you rely on at work? Think about how you developed these skills over the years?
Did you inherit any particular strengths from a family member? I'm guessing that my father must have been smart, inquisitive, and creative because my mother was none of those things.
Are there any quirky things you excel at? Or are there any strange "tricks" you have always been able to do? How have these served you over time? I never thought of the eyebrow or lip things as "talents" before bt I'm cracking myself up here because I've realized that I can only do those things on the left side. :giggle: Oh! I can do that Mr. Spock Vulcan salute hand thing that not everyone can do!
Day 2: I'll try to answer but I doubt any of this will go in my book.
* What were your friendships like as a child? How is this similar to your friendships now?
* Have you always had a large group of friends or just a few close friends?
* Has making friends always been easy (or difficult) for you?
Making friends has always been hard for me. When I was a kid I didn't want anyone to get close enough to find out what my home and family were like. As an adult my friends have mostly been coworkers and, now that I have no coworkers, I have no friends.
* What do you friends depend on you for?
* How do your closest friends describe you (ask them!)
* Reflect on the constants of your family relationships.
* Have you always played a certain role in your family? The responsible one? The "baby"? The "black sheep"? I was always the good girl, responsible, over achiever trying to be good enough to merit my mother's attention while trying to avoid the attention of my step-fathers. My mother always made me feel that I couldn't do anything right yet, after she died, my siblings told me that once I left home they were made to feel that they could never be as good as I was. :sigh:
* Are the family social director, artist, or maybe peace maker?
* What are the constants of your relationship with your parents? Your siblings? My parents, including the evil step-fathers, are dead and my siblings don't speak to me.
Day 3: FREETIME
* Think about how you liked to spend your free-time as a child. What games and activities did you enjoy? How are these similar to your hobbies today?
* Areas to think about - arts & crafts, reading, movies/TV, sports, outdoor activities, camping, etc.
* Did you "inherit" any passions from your parents or other family members
* Think about patterns in how you spend your free-time or similarities in the various hobbies you have had
I've always enjoyed reading. As a child I did it as an escape, now I mostly do it to learn new things.
I've always enjoyed creating things. As a child I would build "hide-outs" in the woods and loved doing art projects at school. Now I put that creative energy into decorating my home, sewing costumes, and papercrafting.
Day 4: VALUES
* What values did your parents instill in you? How does this impact who you are today?
For the most part I strive NOT to be like my mother. Some positive things I did get from her are my love for animals and she did teach me to take care of my belongings.
* What values have you passed on to your children? How does this define you as a person. I'm trying to teach my children all of the things I didn't learn as a child. I want them to know that their health and happiness is more important to me than anything else. I want them to have integrety and compassion.
* Did religion play a big part of your childhood? If so, how did that shape your values as an adult? Religion had no part in my childhood home. As an adult I do my best to live a life to honor and please God but have no use for patriarchal organized religion.
Day 5: THE NEGATIVE
* What things have always been a challenge for you? It's always been hard for me to try new things because I was taught that nothing less than perfection was acceptable. My husband has taught me to loosen up a little but I will still study as much as I can first so I don't screw up too bad!
* Are there things you have disliked every since childhood? Do you know when it first began?
* What things did you hate as child? Which classes, foods, chores, etc. Do you still hate these as an adult?
* What irks you in other people? Has this always been true?
* Any phobias or fears? Can you remember when they started?
SORRY BREE: I just can't finish this project. I did not have a pleasant childhood and this is dredging up too many painful memories. You'd think that by my age I would be over it but I'm not.
Day 6: PERSONALITY TRAITS
* How do other describe you? What traits did you parents, teachers and friends use to describe you as a child?
*When all else fails, try choosing from this list:
⁃ talkative, quiet, outgoing, introverted, friendly, reserved, expressive, passionate, easygoing
⁃ optimistic, skeptical, critical, nervous, worry-free, open-minded, curious, dependable, loyal
⁃ funny, smart, pretty, goofy, artsy, creative, energetic
⁃ nerdy, geeky, popular, preppy, social, dependable, quirky
Day 7:
Shannon
04-30-2008, 01:34 PM
My spot:
Random Thoughts:
* I am a procrastinator!
* I do not like surprises.
Day 1: Strengths
What classes were you good at as a child? I loved school as a kid. I was pretty good at most subjects. My favorite was English - I loved to write and really wanted to be a journalist. I LOVED to read and still do! I was artistic and I think it still shows in my creations. How does this compare to your strengths today? I still love to read and write. I love learning about history more now than I did in school. Unfortunately I hate to admit that my math skills have dropped. I still believe my artistic qualities live in my daily life as well as my creations. I'd rather make gifts for others instead of purchasing them!
If you work outside of the home, what skills do you rely on at work? I do not "work" outside the house BUT I do work with my Brownie troop which I believe requires patience (funny though I am not a really patient type of person), listening to what the kids have to say, teaching the kids the activities we are working on. I like to get them to think outside of their box and bring their artistic qualities to their projects. Think about how you developed these skills over the years? Like I had mentioned, I am not a patient person at all but since having children, I have learned to put my patience panties on. I still have troubles occasionally (mostly with my own kids) but they usually get me back on track. I LOVE to teach the kids and wish that I had gone to school to become a teacher! I really give my kids all the credit in developing these skills.
Did you inherit any particular strengths from a family member? My mom was always the creative/crafty one. I inherited my impatience from my father. I believe I have inherited my stubbornness & strong will from my grandfather who passed away when I was in the 7th grade - he was so strong in his battle with colon cancer!
Are there any quirky things you excel at? Or are there any strange "tricks" you have always been able to do? How have these served you over time? I will have to come back to this question
Day 2: Friends & Family
* What were your friendships like as a child? I had one best friend and many close friends. In school, I was friends with pretty much everyone...there were really only a few people that I did not get along with. How is this similar to your friendships now? I am pretty much the same way now...although now I am VERY opinionated and have a longer list of people that I don't get a long with. :giggle:
* Have you always had a large group of friends or just a few close friends? A little of both. I have always had a large group of friends but a few that I was super close with.
* Has making friends always been easy (or difficult) for you? Although I am a pretty shy person, I am pretty good at making friends. When I first meet new people I am nervous but for only a few minutes.
* What do you friends depend on you for?
* How do your closest friends describe you (ask them!)
* Reflect on the constants of your family relationships.
* Have you always played a certain role in your family? The responsible one? The "baby"? The "black sheep"? I have always been the responsible one. Growing up I was always was expected to be on the honor roll in school. If I ever got lower than a "B" my parents flipped. But things were never the same for my sister. She was the baby and had a learning disability so she got away with lots of stuff. When I was 19, I moved out of my parents house and I was expected to take my sister with me. She was still in high school so I took on the mother roll with her and made sure she got to school everyday.
* Are the family social director, artist, or maybe peace maker? I really do not to much stuff with my extended family anymore. I pretty much realized that I didn't have to deal with all of the drama anymore. I am the social director for my family - always planning the kids/family outings, planning playdates, etc. I am also the peace maker for the kids. :)
* What are the constants of your relationship with your parents? Fighting is a constant. They still see us as little kids and think they have a say in our lives (me & my sister)/ I decided long ago that I was not going to deal with that nonsense so it makes for a rocky relationship. I go for long periods of time not talking to my parents. I am fine with it because my life is more peaceful. Your siblings? My sister and I are only 19 months apart in age. We were always close growing up. We were we even locker partners in my junior year of high school and we had pretty much the same friends. Once we moved out on our own it was ok for a bit...up until Ken and I got back together. She was not happy with all the time I spent with him so we got in a huge fight, she moved out and we didn't talk for some time. Today we are close and we know that we can argue and still be close. We talk every day and I am usually her go-to gal when she is fighting with my parents. She hasn't come to the realization that our parents have no say in what we do so things aren't as easy for her.
Day 3: FREETIME
* Think about how you liked to spend your free-time as a child. What games and activities did you enjoy? As a child I enjoyed anything artsy. I loved to read. I have always loved taking photos too. As far as games go, my sister and I loved to play chutes & ladders, checkers, scrabble, UNO and candy land. How are these similar to your hobbies today? Everything is pretty much the same and now I enjoy some of those games with my own kids!
* Areas to think about - arts & crafts, reading, movies/TV, sports, outdoor activities, camping, etc. I would have to say that my parents used tv as childcare FAR too often!!!
* Did you "inherit" any passions from your parents or other family members - my mom was very crafty but she never did anything remotely close to scrapping. I suppose she loved taking photos of us when we were growing up since she has a ton (and won't share them!!!) but I think that is about it.
* Think about patterns in how you spend your free-time or similarities in the various hobbies you have had - When Ken and I got back together (for the last time) I was jumping from hobby to hobby. It would drive him crazy! Finally I went to a CM party and was hooked. He said he was so happy that I found a hobby that I stuck with. He even bought my Sizzix for me for that reason. Not sure he still feels that way with all of the money I have into this hobby now! lol
Day 4: VALUES
* What values did your parents instill in you? Goodness...not sure how much they really taught us growing up. I think my sister and I pretty much learned our values from school(girl scouts), other family members & our friends (I just called my sister to verify this feeling and she totally agrees). How does this impact who you are today? I know now what is important to teach your children and understand the importance.
* What values have you passed on to your children? To be respectful to their elders & themselves, to be honest, believe in themselves, do the best that they can with everything they do, family is important How does this define you as a person.
* Did religion play a big part of your childhood? My parents never attended church. My mother was raised Catholic and I am not sure if my fathers parents had a specific religion. If I wanted to go to church I would have to beg my parents to let me spend the night at my grandmothers house so I could go with her. If so, how did that shape your values as an adult? Honestly, as a teenager I think my parents actions showed us that religion and a relationship with God was not important. Which as an adult, I know is not the case. Jackie is at the age where she is really into learning & loves going to Sunday school. I need to be better about getting her there. That is my personal goal. Ben has a Bible and loves when we read it together...but hasn't attended Sunday school with Jackie.
Day 5: THE NEGATIVE
* What things have always been a challenge for you? Patience. I really struggle with this. I like to get things done in a quick/timely manner and really have to hold myself back when I am working with my kids or with my scouts. I do have a temper...I am usually pretty good until I hit a certain limit and then I explode. I am told that I am very sarcastic.
* Are there things you have disliked every since childhood? Do you know when it first began?
* What things did you hate as child? Which classes, foods, chores, etc. Do you still hate these as an adult?
* What irks you in other people? Has this always been true?

Dew, Cherry Coke, my camera, cheesecake, the color blue, fall, bike rides, walks in the park, Tivo. Which ones started in early childhood? reading, I started taking photos in my early teen years, being with my family, dogs, cats, the color blue.
When I was a little girl I was quite girly, then went more casual, preppy, then work attire and now I am back to casual. I don't think I have a signature style that has always been me. lol
Day 1: Strengths
What classes were you good at as a child? Classes that I was good at were math and computer science. How does this compare to your strengths today? I'm a computer whiz and am still good with numbers.
If you work outside of the home, what skills do you rely on at work? Patience, Responsibility, the ability to work Independantly and as a Team Member, Computer knowledge, Organization Think about how you developed these skills over the years? I had worked in several differient fields and each place has taught me something and made me a stronger person.

We grew up on a farm so we rode bikes, played yard games, explored through the farm, watched TV, played Nitendo, fixed puzzles and played lots of board games. How are these similar to your hobbies today? I was not crafty as a child - but now I am. It was easier to get out and do things as a child because we had a larger family. Now, its just me & Trev and we tend to be more laid back.
* Areas to think about - arts & crafts, reading, movies/TV, sports, outdoor activities, camping, etc.
* Did you "inherit" any passions from your parents or other family members Lets see....my mom is crafty - she sews & makes quilts. I'm crafty, but in a different way.
* Think about patterns in how you spend your free-time or similarities in the various hobbies you have had
Day 4: VALUES
* What values did your parents instill in you? I grew up in a Christian home and we were taught to respect ourselves and others. We were taught to work hard and things dont just get handed to you, you need to work for them. How does this impact who you are today? these things impact me alot - I have worked VERY hard to get where I am at today - as a mom and at work. I started my job at the "bottom" and over the past 7 years, I have managed to become a very valuable employee. I have respect for myself - I dont have body piercings and tattoos. And I have respect for others - if someone is having a bad day, I love to help them out.
* What values have you passed on to your children? I am pretty much passing down the same things my parents taught me - To be respectful of others - to use manners - to work hard How does this define you as a person.
* Did religion play a big part of your childhood? YEs, religion was a huge part of growing up. We are Catholic and we went to a Catholic school and attended services every sunday. If so, how did that shape your values as an adult? I think growing up Catholic it has impacted who I am today. Even though I dont go to church every sunday, I still believe in all the things I grew up learning about and am teaching my son about those things as well.

* Any phobias or fears? a fear of something happening to me Can you remember when they started? After I had Trev - fear of leaving him alone
Day 6: PERSONALITY TRAITS
* How do other describe you? What traits did you parents, teachers and friends use to describe you as a child?
As far back as I remember, I have always been known as the "quiet" one. I was extremely shy growing up. Everyone would say that I am friendly person and very loyal. I'll always be there for you when you need me - very dependable. I'm very dedicated.

Here's my spot :) BBL to answer the Q's...
Day 1: Strengths
What classes were you good at as a child? How does this compare to your strengths today? I don't remember much about my school years...I think I was good in language arts and accounting. Today my strengths are in editing/proofreading/word processing...teaching Word & Excel...anything computer related. I know I learned my grammar the right way in technical college - it took until then for me to understand it. Now it's what I do best.
If you work outside of the home, what skills do you rely on at work? Think about how you developed these skills over the years? At work I multi-task constantly; communicate with students, staff and parents; computer applications; problem solving and decision making. These skills have developed immensely over the years. I pretty much run my own show (so-to-speak) in my office and I like being the one who makes everything flow and tick.
Did you inherit any particular strengths from a family member? I am crafty like my mom - I cross stitched for many years like she did. She crochets, but I never did that. She is just starting to scrapbook, so she's finding her craftiness again.
Are there any quirky things you excel at? Or are there any strange "tricks" you have always been able to do? How have these served you over time? Not that I can think of at this time.
Day 2: Friends & Family
* What were your friendships like as a child? How is this similar to your friendships now? I remember having one or two close friends as a child; in high school I had one best girlfriend and a couple others I was close with. Now I have 5 or 6 close friends and many, many acquaintences.
* Have you always had a large group of friends or just a few close friends? Just a few close friends back then and today.
* Has making friends always been easy (or difficult) for you? Making friends was harder when I was younger; now I have no problem making friends, in person or online!
* What do you friends depend on you for? My friends depend on me for support, compassion, empathy, appreciation, companionship, and advice.
* How do your closest friends describe you (ask them!) Ask Heather :)
* Reflect on the constants of your family relationships.
* Have you always played a certain role in your family? The responsible one? The "baby"? The "black sheep"? I don't know that I've actually played a "role". I'm the oldest of two girls. We are total opposites in looks and personalities. I've never referred to her as my baby sister...no, I don't think any of us had "roles".
* Are the family social director, artist, or maybe peace maker? Definitely the artist. I'm always making something for my mom and dad, sister, or my aunt.
* What are the constants of your relationship with your parents? Your siblings? My parents are very supportive and always tell me they love me. My sister and I have never been super close. We don't call each other every week or anything like that. We'll email back and forth if we catch each other at our desks, and I scrapbook her boys all the time, but we don't see each other as much as we could/should. I've always wished we had a closer relationship, but it's just never been our "thing".

Day 1: Strengths
What classes were you good at as a child? How does this compare to your strengths today?
I was good at English language and literature, loved reading and writing essays, anything to do with history, photography, drawing and painting. I'm now a Social Worker so use those English skills every day doing assessments and writing reports and the arty ones in my spare time!
If you work outside of the home, what skills do you rely on at work? Think about how you developed these skills over the years?
Lots of communication, problem solving and analytical skills.
Did you inherit any particular strengths from a family member?
My crafty traits from my maternal grandfather's side of the family.
Are there any quirky things you excel at? Or are there any strange "tricks" you have always been able to do? How have these served you over time?
Hmmm, have to think a bit more about this one!

Day 6:
Day 7:
Day 1: What classes were you good at as a child? How does this compare to your strengths today? Math & English were my best subjects in school. Overall though I was pretty nerdy throughout school. :p My strengths then have helped me become better at what I do now. Since I work in the school, I deal with a lot of Math (aka budget stuff) & English (letters, etc.). I'd say I'm not quite as anal about it as I was as a kid but still really try to do my best.
If you work outside of the home, what skills do you rely on at work? Think about how you developed these skills over the years? Pretty much what I wrote above. Although I am much more organized at work than I am at home. I am good with prioritizing & deadlines at work but sometimes lack that skill at home. I think mostly my skills have developed just because I've done my job for so long - going on 11 years now. :)
Did you inherit any particular strengths from a family member? Definitely my math skills came from my dad. When I was in school, he'd help me with Algebra or Geometry every night. My strength that I gained from mother would have to be my desire & love for putting my whole heart into what I do - family, job duties, etc.
Are there any quirky things you excel at? Or are there any strange "tricks" you have always been able to do? How have these served you over time? I'm usually really good @ figuring out computer programs on my own. If I've not ever used something, I can usually sit down & play with it for a little while & just 'get it'. This has been great for me since I work in an office. Sometimes a little too great when I'm the go-to girl when anyone has a question. :)
Day 2: What were your friendships like as a child? How is this similar to your friendships now? When I was younger I had several girl friends & a few boy friends. While I don't have a lot of friends now (as I did when I was younger), I am a true friend & would do anything for any of them. I'm still BFF :friends:with my friend from 5th grade.
* Have you always had a large group of friends or just a few close friends? I definitely had more when I was young but as I grew older I held onto a few close friends.
* Has making friends always been easy (or difficult) for you? Like every other answer above, it was so much easier when I was younger. As I went through HS, I had my one BFF. It's not easy for me to make friends just because everyone my age is usually at a totally different stage in their life - party animals, dating, etc. Now I consider my co-workers my friends.
* What do you friends depend on you for?I would hope they could depend on me for anything. :) I really would do anything (within reason!) for them!
* How do your closest friends describe you (ask them!)I didn't ask but I would think they would describe me as loyal & a very supportive friend. I always am there to lend an ear or vent away with.
* Reflect on the constants of your family relationships.
* Have you always played a certain role in your family? The responsible one? The "baby"? The "black sheep"? I've always been the responsible one in my family. With me being the oldest child of 4, I've had to grow up being the one they all looked up to. I still sometimes have to be the responsible one having to deal with our family struggles.
* Are the family social director, artist, or maybe peace maker?Probably more so the peace maker. I RARELY have a confrontation with family members but ALWAYS seem to be the middle man. And that is so, not fun. :(
* What are the constants of your relationship with your parents? Your siblings?I have a good relationship with my parents. I speak to them both but like everyone, I sometimes get upset with the way they've behaved (& I know they have felt that way with me too!). My siblings are a little different. We were REALLY super close when we were younger & now we aren't. One brother I can hardly stand to be around because of the life/people he's chosen to be in his life, one he won't even hardly talk to me (or anyone for that fact), & my sister keeps a lot to herself too.

Day 7:
Day 1: Strengths
What classes were you good at as a child? How does this compare to your strengths today? I was always really good at history and geography. I have a great memory - i can remember dates and details. Also I always loved literature. Not so much English and Grammar, definitely not spelling, but i love literature.
If you work outside of the home, what skills do you rely on at work? Think about how you developed these skills over the years? When I did work out side the home, I worked as a sign language interpreter and in the office of a non-profit that made religious materials for the deaf. I always had great people skills and that was perfect for my job. I'm good at remembering faces and names. And my signing skills are pretty good if I do say so myself. :)
Did you inherit any particular strengths from a family member? well, depending on how you look at it - I got stubborness from my mom, grandma, and great-grandma - but i can also look at stubborn as independent. and I think that's a great thing!
Are there any quirky things you excel at? Or are there any strange "tricks" you have always been able to do? How have these served you over time? quirky things huh? I was always very athletic. I can hang a spoon off my nose - it's a family thing. not sure those things serve me well though. :)
Day 2: Friends & Family
* What were your friendships like as a child? How is this similar to your friendships now? i have always been a very loyal friend - same today as it was when i was a child. growing up a majority of my friends were guys - until jr. high - then i added a couple girl friends, but still mostly guys. And that's still true to some point - i get along better with guys than girls.
* Have you always had a large group of friends or just a few close friends? i usually have a large group of friends, but with just one or two really CLOSE friends
* Has making friends always been easy (or difficult) for you? I wouldn't say it's easy for me to make friends, but it takes me a while to get to the 'friend' point.
* What do you friends depend on you for? someone to listen, someone to understand, a good laugh, and usually a good meal
* How do your closest friends describe you (ask them!) oh my
* Reflect on the constants of your family relationships. my family is VERY close - even extended family - way out - very close. it's awesome - and i want the same for my own children.
* Have you always played a certain role in your family? The responsible one? The "baby"? The "black sheep"? no. when i was younger i was the 'wild child' compared to my younger brother, but now I'm totally the 'responsible & dependable one'
* Are the family social director, artist, or maybe peace maker? i am the family social director - i'm always planning and scheming something fun for us to do
* What are the constants of your relationship with your parents? Your siblings? I would say one of the constants in our family is religion. it was never 'forced' on us - but it was a stable constant of our growing up. my parents were EXCELLENT examples for us. one of my biggest 'parent' memories is having a fight with my dad when i was in jr. high. i was mad b/c a friend was getting to do something (foolish no doubt) that i wasn't. and I said BUT JENNY'S PARENTS DON'T CARE! and my dad looked me straight in the eye and said "that's exactly right. her parents DON'T care and that's the difference" stuck with me.
my brother - our relationship has changed over the years. rumor has it that when he was born I exclaimed "hooray for the baby!" but i don't buy it. ;) then we went through a long phase of fighting all the time, then we were so different when i was in HS. We ended up at the same college - my last year his first - and we some how got really close. and now - we're CLOSE - and that makes me so happy - i'm so proud of the man/husband/dad he's become. he rocks.

Day 1: Strengths
What classes were you good at as a child? How does this compare to your strengths today?
I have always done well without having to try very hard. I tend to catch on to things easily. This still holds true today.
If you work outside of the home, what skills do you rely on at work? Think about how you developed these skills over the years?
Being in management I have to be a people person and have the ability to be patient. I can remember the day I got my first retail job and my mom asked me if I was sure that was what I wanted to do. I used to be very impatient and have NO tolerance for dumb people. I can still be that way, but I have learned to hide it at work!
Did you inherit any particular strengths from a family member?
I am A LOT like my mom. I learn things easily, I usually do well and strive for perfection in the things I do, and I am self-motivated. I think I am also a lot like my Dad as well. I try to be the peace-maker and strech myself too thin trying to make everyone happy. I am also very generous and put others first.
Are there any quirky things you excel at? Or are there any strange "tricks" you have always been able to do? How have these served you over time?
Not that I can think of. I can flip my tounge, roll my tounge and make it look like a clam. I don't know if that is really a talent or just my stupid human trick. It definatly isn't something that helps me in my everyday life!
Day 2: Friends & Family
* What were your friendships like as a child? How is this similar to your friendships now?
I have always been a loyal friend. I put their feelings and needs a head of mine.
* Have you always had a large group of friends or just a few close friends?
When I was in school I had a large group of friends, but always had my close friends. In time my close friends are the ones that I am still in contact with and I don't really talk to too many other people.
* Has making friends always been easy (or difficult) for you?
I have always been a people person and tend to make friends easily, but I don't always work at keeping them.
* What do you friends depend on you for?
I am always someone they go to to talk. I am the one that helps everyone out and tries to make things easier for them.
* How do your closest friends describe you (ask them!)
* Reflect on the constants of your family relationships.
I have always been Daddy's girl. It has always been important to me to make him proud of me and not to dissappoint him. With my sister I have always been very protective.
* Have you always played a certain role in your family? The responsible one? The "baby"? The "black sheep"?
I think my role is the "Other Mom". I have always been very protective of my siblings and try to make sure that they have everything they need.
* Are the family social director, artist, or maybe peace maker?
I don't know what I would consider myself.
* What are the constants of your relationship with your parents? Your siblings?
The constants with my family would have to be that they are very important to me. I can remember when I was younger and my brother and I didn't get along. My dad would tell me that I needed to make an effort with him because friends come and go, but I would always have my brother. That is something that has always been true with my family. No matter what we are always there for each other and can depend on each other in any situation, good or bad.
Day 3: FREETIME
* Think about how you liked to spend your free-time as a child. What games and activities did you enjoy? How are these similar to your hobbies today?
I always enjoyed reading as a child. I still enjoy reading, but I don't do it as much as I used to.
* Areas to think about - arts & crafts, reading, movies/TV, sports, outdoor activities, camping, etc.
* Did you "inherit" any passions from your parents or other family members
I inherited my love for reading from my mom. She has always been a reader and encouraged me to read. (I think part of that was reading was the only thing I could do to occupy myself and give her some time to herself!) My love of crime shows came from my dad! I also got my love for watching sports from my dad. I think always having sports around I got used to it, then more of a like for it when Lou was watching and playing.
* Think about patterns in how you spend your free-time or similarities in the various hobbies you have had
Day 4: VALUES
* What values did your parents instill in you? How does this impact who you are today?
They have taught me that my family comes first, treat others kind, being generous, caring. I would like to say that I am who I am because of my parents. I think they did a great job raising us kids. I think I'm a pretty good person because of them.
* What values have you passed on to your children? How does this define you as a person.
* Did religion play a big part of your childhood? If so, how did that shape your values as an adult?
Day 5: THE NEGATIVE
* What things have always been a challenge for you?
* Are there things you have disliked every since childhood? Do you know when it first began?
I have never liked bugs! I believe that I have been terrified of them since I was born. My family has always told me that I wouldn't play in the grass as a small child because I was scared of the bugs.
* What things did you hate as child? Which classes, foods, chores, etc. Do you still hate these as an adult?
I have always hated doing the dishes. Even now that we have a dishwasher, I just HATE it. I think it's something about the old food that is on dishes. And don't even think about asking me to put my hands in dirty dish water!* What irks you in other people? Has this always been true?
* Any phobias or fears? Can you remember when they started?
I have a fear of feet. I don't remember when it started. I can't remember them not bothering me. Unpainted toenails in open toe shoes, mens bare feet, dirty socks, they are all just disgusting! And I HATE anyone touching my feet. This has gotten better over the years, but I will still not touch anyones feet.
Day 6: PERSONALITY TRAITS
* How do other describe you? What traits did you parents, teachers and friends use to describe you as a child?
I have always been the well-behaved child. I am also a people pleaser. That is why I was so well-behaved.
*When all else fails, try choosing from this list:
⁃ talkative, outgoing, friendly, reserved, passionate, easygoing, optimistic, skeptical, critical, nervous, worrier, open-minded, smart, pretty, goofy, energetic, social, dependable, quirky
Day 7: FAVORITES
* What are the things that you love today? Which ones started in early childhood?
I have always loved children.
* Consider foods, places, animals, drinks, clothing, style, and objects.
Lions have always been my favorite animal. Ever since I can remember. I have always liked "girly" clothing. Not really skirts or dresses, but things with a femine touch. Mountain Dew has always been my favorite pop. My style has always been kind of conservative. I don't like things that are too flashy or "look at me".
* Any favorite toys or items you still use today?
* Do you have "signature" style or item that has always been "you"? Girly, tomboy, pink, flowers, black, vintage, unique, casual, etc. You get the idea!
Day 1: Strengths
What classes were you good at as a child? How does this compare to your strengths today? I had to study hard and I always struggled when it came to test time. I was good at english, spelling, literature and PE. I loved reading and still do.
If you work outside of the home, what skills do you rely on at work? Think about how you developed these skills over the years? I love to organize though not at home, I have good intentions though. :) I had to develop good people skills and phone skills as well.
Did you inherit any particular strengths from a family member? My mom is a crafty person and that seems to have passed on to me. My Dad is in management and i think i have taken his work ethics. I like to get the job done and do it the best I can.
Are there any quirky things you excel at? Or are there any strange "tricks" you have always been able to do? How have these served you over time?
I can tie a cherry stem with my tongue, not that is serves me in any way. I also have taught myself everything I know about computers. I am not afriad to sit down and learn how to use something by just trying.
Day 2: Friends & Family
* What were your friendships like as a child? How is this similar to your friendships now? I am still friends in one way or another with most the people I went to school with.
* Have you always had a large group of friends or just a few close friends?
When I think about it I really do have a large group of friends. I still stay in contact with a lot of them.
* Has making friends always been easy (or difficult) for you?
Making friends has always been easy. The more friends the merrier!
* What do you friends depend on you for?
I am a good listener and think that I sometimes have some good advice. I am always there for my friends be it day or night. They mean the world to me.
* How do your closest friends describe you (ask them!)
loyal, trust worthy, honest, caring, fun to be around, lots of laughs, silly and yes I did ask. :)
* Reflect on the constants of your family relationships. My parents have been married for 40 years this year. I inspire to be like them. We have alwys been a close family.
* Have you always played a certain role in your family? The responsible one? The "baby"? The "black sheep"? I have always been the one to say it like it is. I don't hold back but I do think about my words carefully.
* Are the family social director, artist, or maybe peace maker?I think I am the peacemaker. I don't want there to be family problems. It all needs to be talked about.
* What are the constants of your relationship with your parents? Your siblings? I have always been really close with my parents and my brother. I talk to my every day if not every other day. I talk to my brother at least once a week. My dad is not a phone person so we email daily.
