May Class Chat/Question Thread

Okay, I, the queen of new threads, could not resist having a chat thread!

I mean we have a WHOLE month that this class will be running, and while chatting is totally permitted in the other threads, I thought why not a thread dedicated just to questions and chatting. So lets put random questions and chat here.

Do you plan to make the book about yourself (like I did) or about someone else (which I will be doing next)?

I'm doing something about myself. I'm really embracing the idea of more me stuff. Growing up it's easy to have stuff about yourself that your parents keep record of but you don't always get stuff about your parents. So I'm excited to do stuff like this to leave for Kaleigh, grandchildren, etc. I would kill for stuff like this of my grandmothers and mom.

Really I am so proud of all of you for doing it about yourself! That was really the original idea and I think its something everyone should do - document the little things about YOU. :D

I'm sure it can, and even if you do need pictures; just have J take pictures of things that remind her of whatever it is that she's writing about.

like...if she ALWAYS had to eat oreos on sunday, have her take a picture of oreos.

or if she Always was into pigtails; take a picture of her in pigtails now.

That way she's looking at it the way she sees herself now. :D

I did some pages with old photos, some no photo etc. Anything goes. I think the journaling is most important. Pictures are optional.

I have some I plan to take new photos for still. We will discuss the use of photos more in week 2, but great question!

We had two dogs together (DH and I) - Sasha (who is now 15!) and Scout. After we lost Scout, we ended up with this tiny puppy (sooner than planned). Thomas wanted a name that began with S like the other two. I played around with girl names... brainstorming while driving lol Finally, I realized that was the 7th dog in our lives. 1) DH childhood dog Ricky, 2) my childhood dog George, 3) Kuma (DH's family dog), 4) Tatsu (DH family dog), 5) Sasha, 6) Scout...

So she is 7. Technically I skipped a dog we had for a short time, but I was never close to him (as a child). Plus we lots Scout on Feb 17th, and Seven seems to have been born that same week... so secretly, the 7 reminded Thomas of this. He likes to think Seven is partly Scout back with us again.

there is a humongo difference between "who I was" up til 5th grade & who I became after that (move & a bad bad several years after that in regards to an abusive man entering my life ......)

i am so sorry that you had to go through whatever it was you had to deal with all those years. maybe someday you can scrap or write about it and it will be therapeutic but it may be that now is not the right time.

a few ideas for how you could do the prompts and the class - you could start with an opening page writing about what you just told us... sort of a "I have never ALWAYS been anything..." and then a little blurb maybe about how ever since meeting trent, or ever since becoming a mom, or something like that, you have made positive changes and want to document that transition.. things like "I have always loved baby giggles... I have always been grateful to have trent in my life (even when he drives me nuts)... I always want another baby :giggle: (seriously though, maybe this comes from being part of a large family or that trent comes from a large family and so you've both always wanted lots of kids... or maybe you both come from small families and miss siblings and so want your kids to have lots, I don't know).... I have always been insecure about _____ or afraid of _____ (i think it is worth journaling a little bit of the negative stuff, so that you can see how much you've grown over time).... I feel like I have always had a headache (journal about the difficulty you're having right now with these headaches that feel like they have been happening forever).... I have always thought being a stay at home mom was the best job in the world... "

i don't know, i guess I could see you thinking about "always" in terms of right now - the things that really are true, deep down, even when you're having a bad day or are frustrated with trent or have to drive forever to get james to school etc. Sort of a "I always _____ even when ____" lol kind of a give & take approach.

I am so proud of you right now I almost cried! I went thru some difficult times a child, but not a hard as yours I suspect. But having been thru that and knowing people who went thru tough times as well, I know how hard it can be to think back on earlier times. You did a FANTASTIC job of answering the questions and I love how your list is shaping up already! The use of humor, the importance of honesty, the way you are there for friends... all of these things are core to who you are. I am so glad you worked on this!

I am going to break up my album into 3 parts
'I am'
'I was'
'I will always'

ex:
"I am" a Mom, wife....
"I was" a gymnast, good at math.....
"I will always" love God, be a caretaker/nurturer....

I put up my list. I have to pick an album or figure out if I'm making my own or what, so I might change my # of items once I do. I know I should use photos of some kind but I'm so lazy lol we'll see. If I do use photos it'll likely be of the google-image-search variety.

yeah, but I feel lazy when i don't use photos. i think it'll depend on what mini album I end up with - if it's a little one, I probably will just skip the photos. but if it's bigger, I may want something to fill up the space, y'know? I can think of some pictures that would work, like a picture of my favorite book or a picture of mystery books & fantasy/sci fi TV characters from a DVD cover or something... maybe clip art or a comic strip cartoon for math...

Oh, I am the good girl at work too! I "confess" anything I do wrong to my boss. He knows that I just can not really lie well or cover anything up. I feel too guilty! And at school this was true.

i bought the new SR white grid mini album to use for mine :woohoo: I won't get it for another week or two but that's ok because all my scrappy stuff will be packed up for about a week while I move and get things reorganized in the new place. i will try to do my internet browsing for pictures in the meantime :yes:

I have been debating orderiung another Ethan album cuz I am afraid I need more pages lol

I used extra pages too! Just be warned it can get challenging to bind! I am going to use loops from bind-it-all coils to bind mine!
