View Full Version : Question about scrapping

I'm out to lunch on this one. I went to a CM memoranza event and scrapped on the pages that came with the album. Some I covered with paper. There seems to be a lot of cutting involved with doing it this way.

I have a lot of cardstock from SU. I've swapped scrap pages with other demos using this method. Is there a difference of is it just preference?

I'd love to hear what you do. I've checked out many galleries and seen a lot of really great pages. What inspiration!

Thanks for any help.

Trishim

I can't figure out what you are asking. So I'll answer what my take on your post is.

As for cardstock, you just have to find a kind that you like. Some people like all kinds of cardstock no matter the brand. Other people like one particular brand and stick to it. I think it is all a matter of what YOU like.

Now, as to putting them in the CM album, you will ALWAYS have to cut like 1/2 inch off any line of paper to fit your CM album unless it is CM paper. CM albums are not a TRUE 12 x 12. So that is why you always are having to cut to make it fit.

I used to use CM albums but changed years ago. I "wallpapered" every page that came from CM with paper anyway. And I love top loading page protectors better than CM's side loading. Once again, it is all a matter of opinion because there are plenty of people who love CM albums.

You just need to find what works best for you and go with it.

DId I answer any question you asked? lmao

Just a little update on the CM albums and paper! CM finally got their act together and is now offering something called perfect fit paper. That perfect fit paper fits on a 12 x 12 page in your CM album with no cutting.

I think someone in the home office has been getting out a little bit more and just this month, CM put out some awesome 12 x 12 patterned papers!!

I use the CM album and I cover some pages and others I just use borders on. I haven't ever seen an album I like better than CM....I like the top loading sheet but I haven't ever seen a binder that I liked! Plus...I think the flat look is a bonus!

Most of my albums are top-loaders because I like to use different papers and most are too heavy when put on a CM page. Plus until recently it was either white or black pages and to combine the to gives you a funky look from the side. But my family album I'm working on is a CM one with the kraft pages, and I like that one.

I personally don't like strap hinged albums.

I LOVE the strap hinge albums from CM. I have been using them for 9 years. I always cut off 1/2 inch to any cardstock before I start my layout. There has been a couple times when I forgot and then it didn't fit. :grrr:

I love the quality of CM albums, but really dislike strap-hinge. HATE that I can't change my mind and rearrange pages later :grrr: My CMC is telling me that they're coming out with post-bound sometime in the near future. She will have a new album customer for life if that is true!

:duh: I can't figure out how to add the little things you add (so technical, I know) to the post-bound. Yes, I read the instructions but don't understand. I'll make it a goal to learn how soon though!

Wow!! I am a CM consultant and haven't heard about the post bound! That doesn't sound like it's in line with the CM albums! I will check around on that thought I am not crazy about the strap hinge either but I don't like the three ring binder more!!

Laura....one of the benefits of the album is supposed to be that you can rearrange papers later?????

(this is not a sales pitch!) SU has 3 ring binders - I really like their page protectors - they're really strong.

I recently got some of those strap-ez things to replace the posts in my post bound alblum - they make it nice and easy!

I love the CM albums but I switched last year to a post-bound. One, because of the paper issue...I just hate cutting off that strip AND I do like the ability to rearrange. The PULP post-bound are the closest to laying flat that I have found but it's still not the same as the CM flatness. I just loved that.

I have issues with the binders actually. I'm always afraid tht years from now the rings will not line up right and I'll have to replace it.

I'm not that fond of rings b/c of how far apart your pages are - I almost always do 2 pg layouts - and they don't just go together so well.

I have thought about switching too but I didn't know what to try first. Maybe I will look for these the next time I am out and about.

I like that my albums from CM all look the same. Each girls has a certain color album and then our family albums are yet another color. Maybe I will hold out until they come out with the post bound. :hmmm:

That was another thing about CM...I had used one of every color album and really wanted the change. I don't understand what CM has against stripes or fun colors. lol

It's cool that they've come out with Perfect Fit Paper but that still wouldn't do the trick for those of us that do the Bazzill backgrounds or other patterned paper. Now if they would only make their pages a little bigger, and decided to use stipes or dots, I'd be sold forever!

Yet another reason why I don't get their albums! They one I did recently buy was the eggplant Kaliedescope one. It was such a gorgeous color! But I want variety!!

OK, now I'm really hoping she wasn't wrong on this! Not really sure where she's getting her information, but she seems to be sure it is happening soon, like this fall maybe?

And I am very anal about my albums. Pages MUST be in chronological order, even though I don't scrap that way. I scrap whatever pictures inspire me at that moment. SO if I was doing strap hinge, I'd have to know what page came after the one I just did, so that I could adhere it to the back of said page. OR I could just wait until the whole album is done and the stick them all down in order. With post-bound I can keep an album going, but when I finally finish that one page that goes in the middle, I can just insert it wherever. Am I making sense?

Tracy

Yes Laura, you are making sense. :D

I love the CM quality but hate that you have to scrap in order. It really hindered me for a while because I didn't want to start Kaleigh's album for fear I'd remember something later to scrap and wouldn't be able to fit it in. I wish they'd do top-loading so I can rearrange later if needed (and a true 12x12 fit). Like, Mon, I'd be a customer for life!

Rowdy, tell them what's up! :director: lol

I use 3 ring binders. I LOVE THEM! I do need to find good page protectors for them still. I was buying them from Leaving Prints before they went out of business. Maybe I will have to try SU.

well I have the CM books and I would wallpaper (cut it down of course) and then just put it on later. I don't use them anymore because I like the different styles and the top loader much better

American Crafts has page protectors that go with their 3-ring albums. Have you tried them? Can't speak for quality since I don't use them, but I know they exist!
