View Full Version : Who wants to play? Then and now!

I've been thinking it would be fun if we played a little game. What you do it post one of your first layouts you have ever done (as embarrassing as it is for those of us who have been scrapping for a while). Then you post your latest layout that you have done. Make sure you list the approximate year of your first layout. I thought it would be cool to see how we have grown as scrappers and how our style has changed over the years. Ready? Who wants to play? I'll go first!

Here is one I happen to have on my computer. Not my first one but definately up there! Gotta love the Jolees (not poking fun at those who use these, I just haven't in forever) and the baby stickers.

Done in 2003:

and this one done yesterday:

Anyone game?

Great idea! And so far the "first" (or "early") layouts posted are truly not bad!

love this. Wish I could participate, but I don't have my scrapbooks here in Germany with me. You would LAUGH. I did mine in 1994.

And rebecca, I'm soooooo gonna scraplift your 2007 page. LOVE IT!

I will have to post my first layout in a while. All my scrapbooks are in my bedroom and that is where all the kids are sleeping right now. As soon as nap is over, I will upload one. lol

Here is one of my very first LO's. I did not have any sort of cutting tool except for deco scissors and a personal trimmer, to get shapes I used a template and a wax pencil. As you can se I can get shapes out pretty well. lmao

A recent LO: Really just look in the gallery.

I know we are all better scrappers then before, but could it also be that the product is also better now??

That is definately a big part of it. If you think about the products available then and now, they are MUCH better.

I was looking at your page Tracy and it looks like it's just stickers & a frame. Probably all that was available back then. It's a cute LO for what was available.

Tracy
05-21-2007, 08:25 AM
Thanks!

Actually it was a piece of 8.5x11 paper that I used as a frame and then the stickers.

Very true Abby. I hadn't thought of that. But I also think just like other hobbies, you get better as time progresses.

Laura

Yes, I think a big part of it is the products available and the techniques that have been developed. All of the "first" layouts here show good design sense, but since there was so little to work with, it was hard to do something similar to what we are used to doing now!

Tamara
05-21-2007, 02:43 PM
I think you got something there. The products back then were not what they are today. But even still, deco scissors, shape templates.....NEVER would I use those now. But then..........

I don't know what you'll have about deco scissors. I still use them every once in a while.:duck2:

I will have to post mine later. I think the differnce too is that when you first start you don't really have much supplies and then you start shopping and have too many supplies.

When I got out the album I had a strong urge to rescrap the whole thing, and then I stopped myself because it's kinda neat to look back and see how I've progressed. And it was only less than a year ago, haha! I can't imagine if I'd been scrapping for YEARS like some of you girlies!

DearAbby

Thanks Ab, it's just so plain to me now, and all stickers and paper. I think I was afraid of embellies back then, haha!

It is great to see the progression from the eariest years of scrapping to now.
Then...
This is one of my earliest LO's done in 1999 to remember ds2 First Haircut after his Bone Marrow Transplant in 1997!

Now.... This is a LO I did last year

using a picture of my granddaughter on vacation with us in Acapulco

It's hard to see the details on this LO, but I added fibers and a bit of bling here and there
