In this tutorial, we will learn how to type on a path or along the perimeter of a shape. To do so, you will need a path (the shape) and when you click on it the text will follow along the shape no matter how it curves or bends. We will learn this technique by creating a circle frame of shaped text on a photo.

1. Open a photo. Choose a photo that has one subject that can have a circle frame around it.
2. Create a new layer.
3. Click on the Shape tool, select the circle, and change the options so that it will draw a path instead of a solid shape.

4. Click on your canvas and holding down the mouse button, draw a circle. Holding down the SHIFT key while doing so will allow you to draw a perfect circle (vs. an oval).
5. Select the Type tool. Mouse over the circle you drew. You will see a diagonal line appear on the cursor. This means you can begin typing on your path. Mouse to where you'd like to start and then double-click. Start typing. You are now typing text on a path.

6. Adjust the size of the font as necessary to make your text fit best. There are a couple other options you can do as well to manipulate your text.
a) You can change the starting point along the path where you'd like your text to start.
b) You can make the text go along the inside of the circle instead of the outside.
To manipulate the text, click the Path Selection tool. To move the text along the path, simply click the beginning of the text and drag. To move the text to the inside of the path, click and drag into the shape (you will see an arrow aiming inside).

A few tips on manipulating the position of the text:
1. The X on the path is where the text starts. To move where the text starts, simply click on the X and move it around the path.
2. The O on the path is where the text ends. If you type beyond the O, the text will disappear past that and then the O will have an X inside of it. This means there is unseen text beyond the endpoint and you need to adjust the text to fit (maybe change the beginning point, font size, etc.)

3. You can also move the whole frame around to better position on your photo. Click the Move tool and move your frame around.
You can use this technique on photos or papers. You can highlight photos, use it to create your title or journaling, type around embellishments, etc.
